Plastic Free July is a global initiative developed in 2011, to raise awareness of the amount of plastic in our lives; by encouraging people to eliminate the use of single-use plastic during July each year. We’ve used Plastic Free July at Focus Rooms to review how we are contributing to the single use plastic that joins the landfills and recycling centers every day. While we’re taking small steps to be better and do better for our environment, we can’t do it alone. Plastic Free July is an initiative that we’d love our fans to join in on! How can you make a difference?
You wake up in the morning and squeeze tooth-paste from it’s plastic tube to brush your teeth, make your way to the kitchen and pop the kettle on to make your first cup of coffee for the day. You scoop the coffee out the plastic tub and give the mug a splash of milk from it’s plastic jug. Remembering to pack lunch, you throw a bunch of snacks in plastic sandwich bags before heading out the door. Perhaps you stop for coffee on your way and grab a takeaway cup with a plastic lid. You grab lunch with a colleague and get a straw with your cool drink and your sandwich is served in a plastic container. All of these plastic pieces are designed to make our lives fast paced and convenient but there are anything but convenient for the environment.
Don’t fret about how you’re going to make a difference though! We’re created a cheat sheet for you:
